George Washington's Birthday Celebration
February 16, 2004

Once celebrated with parades, receptions, revelry and even birthnight balls, George Washington's birthday has fallen by the wayside in recent years. Mesa Arizona author Steven W. Allen was unable to find a single event commemorating Washington's birthday or Presidents Day, so to ensure Washington's legacy lives on -- and people understand why they have the day off work and school -- he put together a free event of his own for all ages to enjoy.
When: Monday, Februray 16, 2004 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Harris Park Professional Building, 1550 E. McKellips Rd., Mesa, Arizona (NW corrner of Harris and McKellips -- look for Independence Hall and the big balloon arch.)

What's happening:

  • Steven W. Allen, author of "Founding Fathers: Uncommon Heroes," will share interesting stories about Washington's life and debunk the myths that have circulated about him for years.

  • George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Patrick Henry will be there to greet you.

  • Members of the Arizona Sons of the American Revolution, dressed in Revolutionary War attire, will mix with the audience and talk about early America.

  • Shake hands with Representative Jeff Flake Member of Congress, Mayor Keno Hawker, members of the Mesa City Council, and members of the Mesa Unified District School Board.

  • Walk inside a replica of Independence Hall.

  • FREE DRAWING every 1/2 hour: Framed artwork, Lg. American Flag, Book: "Founding Fathers -- Uncommon Heroes," gift baskets, gift certificates, and more.

  • FREE games, FREE activities, FREE flags, FREE ballons & FREE face painting for children.
